“And f anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is my disciple, I tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward." – Matthew 10:42
Missions must begin at home. At DCN, we believe that “seeking justice” (see our purpose statement on the home page) means making the community in which we live a better place. We do this in a number of ways, one of which is “Water for the World” (WFW).
This program began in the 80’s under the leadership of Pastor Jim Cooper. He proposed that when our members went to eat in a restaurant, they order water rather than pay for tea or soda. The money they saved would be placed in big water bottles at the church, and would be used to help the needy in the community.
These funds have been used to provide emergency utility assistance, medication, food, and temporary housing. Over the past twenty years, hundreds have received help through WFW.
We are in the process of expanding on this idea. In the next few months, each Sunday school class will adopt a different community program to support with their weekly collection. The involvement won’t stop with money, however. Each class will provide “hands on” volunteer support in the community as well.
